How do the Hands free" security systems actually operate? The Digital Guard Dawg “Smart Relay” as the name implies has a relatively high degree of intelligence designed to understand and anticipate the user actions. The system has a typical range of about 10’ feet. Both the systems Dawg Tag and Smart Relay have independent processors with there own logic and timer routines. When the Smart Relay completes a handshake with a valid (programmed) Dawg Tag the Smart Relay’s processor “Authorizes” switching the ignition or start circuit ON, but does not actually turn the circuit ON until it sees the rider try and start the bike by pushing the bikes “Start Button”. Once a valid Dawg Tag has been seen and the bike is started, the bike will continue to operate even if communication is lost with the Dawg Tag. In other words, if you dropped your Dawg Tag while riding, your bike will continue to run. But once you stop and the bike’s Stop/Run switch or Ignition switch is turned OFF, the Smart Relay timer begins and re-arms the system 30 seconds after your Dawg Tag leaves range.

Should you ever experience momentary difficulty in starting your motorcycle, Don’t Panic. This is caused by one of two reasons and is easily solved. Momentary difficulty starting your motorcycle may be caused by interference from outside radio signals (random RF) much like interference you occasionally get on your cell phone. This can occur if you are parked near a powerful commercial radio tower or near high power radio equipment such as in police or other emergency vehicles. These random RF transmissions can interfere with Digital Guard Dawg’s automatic disarm signal and prevent you from immediately starting. The second reason you could experience difficulty is a weak battery in your Dawg TagTM . Either of these conditions is easily solved by simply boosting the Dawg’s disarm signal. To boost your disarm signal, simply push the hidden button located behind the label on your Dawg Tag as shown. The LED above the button will light up and you will instantly be able start your motorcycle. Do I ever have to replace the battery in my Dawg Tag? Your Dawg Tag contains a lithium battery designed for operational life of 1 to 2 years depending on use. Battery status can be tested by pressing the hidden button and observing the LED. If the LED lights up solid your battery is Good if the LED flashes, flickers or fails to light up, the battery is “Weak” and should be replaced. The battery is a CR 2450 Lithium cell and can be purchased at most drug or electronic stores, Radio Shack etc. To replace your battery, just remove the two screws in the back of your Dawg Tag and exchange the battery, making sure to put it in with the same side up, and screw the case back together. .How can I be sure I have located the correct Starter Relay? Remove the relay you believe is the Starter Relay and try to start your bike. If you have removed the correct Starter Relay, Normal lights will come ON but your motorcycle WILL NOT CRANK. If it Cranks but does not Start you have the Wrong Relay. If the bike still Starts or Cranks, replace the relay and try another until the Starter relay is located. How do I activate my system once installed? Turn the bikes ignition Key Switch to OFF. Next, set the Dawg Tag down near the bike and wait a full 3 minutes to allow all components to reset. Finally, depress the label on the face of the “Dawg Tag" until the LED light comes ON. Then start your bike as you normally do. Your bike SHOULD START. This process will sync up your system and you are ready for a general system test
How do I do a general system test? Walk 30' feet + away from your bike and set the Dawg Tag down. Wait 30 seconds for the system to arm. Don’t start counting until after you have set the Dawg Tag down. After 30 seconds has past, without touching the Dawg Tag in anyway, try to start your bike as you normally do. Your bike SHOULD NOT START. Next, turn your key off and remove it. Finally, walk over and pick up the Dawg Tag. Don't push on the Label, Just give it a slight shake to activate the motion sensor, then walk back to your bike and try to start as you normally would. If everything is working correctly, Your bike WILL START! . . . But only because YOU'RE there! How do I check my system's range? Follow this easy test: Walk 30' feet away from your bike and set your Dawg Tag down. Wait 30 seconds then have someone continually depress your start button. Next, pick up the Dawg tag, give it a slight shake to activate the motion sensor, then very slowly walk back towards your bike, (approximately 1 step per second) Notice at what range your bike starts. If after testing you feel you would like to further fine tune your system range up or down, Instructions can be found on the “Installation” page at www.digitalguarddawg.com |
