iKey Premier vs. Everything Else: Why One Module Beats a Stack of Four

Most people building a modern keyless experience into a vehicle end up buying four separate things: an alarm, an immobilizer, a keyless entry system, and a push-button start kit. Four modules. Four wiring harnesses competing for the same twelve wires under the dash. Four companies to call when something doesn't work, each confident the problem is one of the other three.
The iKey Premier is Digital Guard Dawg's answer to that: all four functions on one board, plus optional remote start. $783 as of July 2026.
This is the full teardown — what's actually inside it, and how it stacks up against every alternative approach.
What the iKey Premier actually is
A second-generation module that bundles:
· Passive keyless entry (PKE) — doors unlock and the alarm disarms as you approach
· Push button start — RFID-authenticated ignition
· Full alarm system — shock sensor, door, hood, brake, and ignition monitoring
· Engine immobilizer — the vehicle will not start without an authorized fob
· Self-arming security — locks and arms automatically as you walk away
· Optional remote engine start
You carry the fob. The car unlocks itself, disarms itself, lets you press a button to start, then locks and arms itself when you leave. No buttons pressed at any point.
Fitment: almost any vehicle except 2012 and newer Mercedes-Benz. Classic or modern — resto-mods, LS swaps, Coyote swaps, hot rods, and daily drivers.

1. One module means one failure domain
This is the argument that wins on its own.
A four-module stack has four power feeds, four grounds, and dozens of interconnects — the alarm has to talk to the immobilizer, the immobilizer to the push-start module, the push-start module to the remote start. Every one of those handoffs is a wire someone crimped under a dash. Every one is a future intermittent fault.
Worse, it's a support maze. When a stacked system throws a no-start, the alarm company blames the bypass module, the bypass company blames the push-start kit, and you're the one holding four phone numbers.
The iKey Premier collapses all of it: one module, one harness set, one troubleshooting flowchart, one phone number. Digital Guard Dawg publishes an interactive iKey troubleshooting flowchart that walks the entire system, because the entire system is theirs.
2. The hardware, published in full
Digital Guard Dawg publishes the complete install manual before you buy. Here's what's in it — and it's worth reading what nobody else prints.

Current handling:
· 1st ignition output: (+) 40A — does not drop out during starter crank

Redundancy. The power harness carries two +12V inputs and the primary accessory harness carries two grounds — both required to land directly on the battery terminals, no intermediate fuses, no self-tapping screws. Most aftermarket modules have one of each. The iKey has two.
That 500mA negative ignition harness is a detail worth pausing on: it exists specifically to drive ISIS and Infinitybox systems. If you're running a modern digital power distribution system in a resto-mod, the iKey speaks its language natively. That's not a feature anyone adds by accident.
Alarm behavior: monitors shock sensor, door switch, hood pin, brake, and ignition while armed. On trigger, sounds horn or siren and flashes parking lights for 30 seconds, then flashes the status LED red on disarm so you know it was tripped while you were away.
3. The fob is doing more than you think
The iKey fob carries six independent channels. Not one. Not two.
Six channels means one fob can run door locks, trunk release, power windows, remote start, power sunroof, convertible top, lighting, or audio — DGD's documentation describes it as "an almost endless combination of accessories, all from a single remote."
It's also dual-mode, which is the part competitors don't match:
· Passive: walk up, doors unlock, alarm disarms. Walk away, it locks and arms. Zero button presses.
· Active: extended-range lock/unlock, trunk pop, remote start, plus your aux channels — pressed manually when you want them.
And a single fob can be coded to operate every Digital Guard Dawg system you own. One fob for the resto-mod, the boat, the bike, and the golf cart. A competitor building a single automotive product can't offer that at any price.
Prefer not to carry a fob at all? The Watch Dawg ($199) hides an RFID fob inside a wristwatch. (Note: the Watch Dawg pairs with the KIM, M1, AT-1, AT-1FX, PBS-M, PBS-MX, PBS-MXS, M24, GC12 and GC48 systems — not the iKey Premier. For iKey builds, the standard fob is the move.)
4. Lost fob? Two answers, both shipped
Every proximity system faces this. The iKey ships with two solutions:

Replacements run $15. Spare iKey fobs are $79.
DGD describes the emergency bypass as exclusive to their systems. VAIS publishes no documented recovery path on its SEER product page. On a $783 system protecting a build worth many multiples of that, "what happens on the worst day" is not a detail to leave undefined.
5. Versus the cheaper single-module kits
Watson's StreetWorks WI-75 — $349. A genuinely well-made RFID push-button start, US-built, with three security modes, a 5–200 foot range, eight sensitivity increments, and a hidden-button override. It's a real product.
But scope it honestly: it starts your engine. It does not unlock your doors as you approach, it has no alarm, no remote start, no accessory channels, and publishes no relay rating. Against the iKey's five functions, you're comparing $349 for one job to $783 for five — and adding an alarm and PKE separately puts you past the iKey's price with three modules instead of one.
VAIS Technology SEER. PKE plus push start with "proprietary encryption," backed by a stated 1-year warranty. VAIS doesn't publish pricing, a chipset, a keyspace, a relay rating, or a lost-fob procedure on that page. The iKey publishes all five.
Budget import PKE kits, $80–200. These advertise the same feature list. Then you read the manual. One widely sold universal PKE kit's user manual states: "This device can improve the vehicle safety level, but could not prevent the vehicle from stolen or the occurrence of unexpected accidents" (EASYGUARD EC002 Series manual).
That's the manufacturer disclaiming theft prevention for a product sold as anti-theft. And the economics are worse than they look: these kits require the same professional installation as an iKey, through the same firewall, into the same circuits. You save on the box, not on the build — and if the module fails, you pay that labor twice.
6. When a different DGD system is the smarter buy
Straight talk, because buying the wrong one helps nobody:
· You already own a Viper, CompuStar, Prestige, Omega, Code Alarm, Crimestopper, Excalibur, Avital or Automate system. Don't replace it — the PBS-X ($443) adds RFID push button start on top of what you have. Same RFID technology, $340 less.
· Pre-1998 classic with no power accessories. The PBS-I ($589) gives you the 60A onboard relays and MSD filtering purpose-built for that wiring, without paying for PKE you can't use on a car with no power locks.
· Pre-1998 classic with power accessories or shaved doors. The PBS-II ($665) adds five programmable output channels for locks, windows, poppers and trunk — and it's the system Hennessey Performance, Revology Cars, Gateway Bronco and Ringbrothers are listed as using.
The iKey Premier is the right call when you want the complete luxury experience — doors that unlock as you walk up, an integrated alarm, an immobilizer, push-button start, and optional remote start, all from one module on one harness set with one support line.
The finishing touch
Every PBS and iKey system includes a premium billet start button, and DGD offers over 50 designs — more than anyone else in the category:

Verdict
At $783, the iKey Premier is not the cheapest way to press a button and start an engine. It's the only aftermarket system in this comparison that delivers passive keyless entry, push button start, a full alarm, an immobilizer, and optional remote start from a single module — while publishing its encryption architecture, its current ratings, its harness pinouts, and its lost-fob procedure in a manual you can read before you spend a dollar.
Four modules cost more, install slower, fail in more places, and leave you holding four phone numbers.
